Flava Jam Tournament Relsults

The Flava Jam tournament was a success for our team in that we made a good showing in front of many Division 1 scouts with the posting of 5wins and 2 loses. One of the loses came in the championship game of the consolation bracket on the final day of the tournament. The championship game was our 3rd game of the day so the girls were a bit worn out by game 3 since they had about an hours reset between each. We finished 4th overall which is excellent for a team made of mostly 14 year old young ladies. I think we impressed scouts and the girls should look forward to hearing from some of the schools when they return home.

Duncanville Texas 2006 Flava Jam

My family and myself attended this NCAA sanctioned event on the weekend of July 29-31, 2006. This is the first event of its kind and size and is a magnet for NCAA D1, D2 and D3 coaches and reruiters for women's college basketball. All of the Big 12 conference coaches and recruiters were on hand to evaluate players from ages 13 on up to 18 years old. The teams present are a collection of some of the best girls basketball players in the country. The month of July has been designated as big tournament month due to the timing of the start of school and basketball season begining in November when potential college athletes can visit campuses. This scenario has given birth to large scale exposure basketball tournaments held across the country to allow college coaches and recruiters to evaluate top prospects competing against one another at the same time and in the same venue. Flava Jam as it has been named brought in talent to Texas from as far away as North Carolina, Atlanta, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Louisiana. A sampling of some of the popular coaches were Jody Conradt (UT) and Kim Mulkey (Baylor). There is a lot of excitement and anticipation in the air during these games, because this is where you make a name for yourself for relatively unknown players and those players who are trying the better position themselves for a college athletic scholarship.
